If you didn't have the chance to ride the rails in the Adirondacks, you'll have to travel a little this Summer. The Railbikes won't return to Saranac Lake this season but will debut in the Catskill Mountains.

The railbikes on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad in Saranac Lake won't be running this year. New York State wants to replace the railroad between Lake Placid and Tupper Lake with a multi-use trail. The Adirondack Scenic Railroad has challenged the decision to remove the rails, but a judgement in the court case has not been reached yet.

Owners Mary Joy Lu & Alex Catchpoole hope to return to the Adirondacks next year. "At Rail Explorers we are hopeful the State's short sighted and misguided plan can be defeated and that Rail Explorers can continue to offer tours along this spectacular historic railroad."

The good news is, you can still ride the rails in New York. Railbikes will be available in the Catskills this Summer. Ride the rails that run alongside the Esopus Creek from the beautiful village of Phoenicia.

The Catskill railbikes will start running in June. Ticket sales begin in May.
