Get ready to ditch your winter coats and break out your windbreakers. Spring is close at hand.

That's the word from Pennsylvania's famed Punxsutawney Phil, who didn't see his shadow on Tuesday morning, Groundhog Day. And that, according to the legend, means we'll have an early spring.

Punxsutawney Phil's website says he is right 100% of the time, although the last time he predicted a short winter back in 2013, snow gripped a good chunk of the U.S. for weeks. That, and, you know, he's a groundhog with no formal meteorological training, so guessing the weather from it would be like asking a kindergartner for help with your algebra homework -- it may not be the best idea.

The failure of Phil to see his shadow is a rarity. He's been on the job since 1887 and  seen his shadow 102 times, while he's not seen a paltry 18 times (there are nine years absent from the record).
