Prospector Finds 12 Pound Gold Nugget

An amateur Australian prospector hit the jackpot recently. A Reuters report says the unidentified man was using his metal detector near Ballarat, Australia, just outside of Adelaide when he heard a “ping”. After digging some two feet down he came across what he thought was part of a automobile hood. It wasn’t.
It was an 8×5 inch gold nugget weighing just over 12 pounds. He took it into Ballarat Mining Exchange Gold Shop and told the owner,
“Mate, I found a good one”.

A good one indeed. It’s initial value is around $300,000 but because of its rarity it could be worth substantially more. And you think it’s funny to see those people with metal detectors on the beach?
