A large winter weather system, dubbed Winter Storm Draco by the Weather Channel, will be moving into New York State Friday and Saturday.

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for southwestern New York including Southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Wyoming and Allegany Counties.  The warning is in effect midday Friday until Saturday afternoon for up to 8 to 14 inches of blowing snow.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the counties along the shore of Lake Ontario and the Eastern Finger Lakes including Niagara, Wayne, Monroe and Ontario.

The major metropolitan areas of Western New York including Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Rochester are in the path of this winter storm.

The storm has prompted blizzard warnings in parts of Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.
