Farm Hands "Week 3" took us to Kel Vista Holsteins in West Winfield.  Our 3rd Dairy Farm in as many weeks, brought us a 3rd variation on a milking operation. The Nelson's have been running the operation for 28 years and have an active milking herd around 85.

Kel Vista Holsteins raise their own calves and they currently have about 17 that are under 6 months old, including one that was born the day before we arrived. You can watch Polly feed it for the 1st time in the video and get bit by one of the calves.

Other "firsts" for us include a "Zamboni" for delivering feed, an elaborate feed mixing system and a manure pit that was piped from the milking parlor to outside, covered pit. A big "Thank You" to the Nelson's for their hospitality and especially, Amanda who took us on a tour of the farm.

The Nelson family received tickets to FrogFest June 13th at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds, presented by White’s Farm Supply and a $50 White’s Farm Supply gift card. They also go into the grand prize drawing for VIP FrogFest tickets and 100 hour rental from White’s Farm Supply. Nominate your farm below.
