The search for the two convicted murders who escaped from a northern New York prison two weeks ago now also includes an area near the New York - Pennsylvania border.

New York State Police said Sunday that they had received a credible but unconfirmed sighting of David Sweat and Richard Matt walking along a railroad track in Allegany County. The sighting appeared authentic enough to lead police to begin deploying ground, air and canine resources to Friendship, NY - about 90 minutes south of Buffalo and just 40 minutes north of Pennsylvania - including Route 20 and Interstate 86.

Meanwhile, an update posted on the NY State Police news information page urged the public to remain vigilant, while also stating 'Tips and leads continue to come in across the state along with unconfirmed sightings, but a primary focus of the search continues to be in the Dannemora area.'

The public should not hesitate to report any suspicious activity including any signs of a trespass, burglary or vehicle larceny. Contact 911, your local law enforcement agency, or the New York State Police to report any information related to this investigation at (518) 563-3761 or 1-800-GIVETIP. Tips can also be sent by email to crimetip@troopers.ny.gov.

New York State is offering a reward of $50,000 for information that leads to the capture of either suspect ($100,000 for both). The U.S. Marshals Service has placed Sweat and Matt on their 15 Most Wanted Fugitives List, and is also offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the capture of either suspect.

Sweat and Matt have been the subject of a statewide manhunt since escaping Clinton Correction Facility in Dannemora on June 6, 2015.
