Trick or treating has been cancelled this year in Arviat, Nunavut, Canada because of Polar bears.

Steve England, the Hamlet's SAO, tells CBC News in Canada, 'Picture 1,200 kids going door to door in Arviat in the middle of polar bear season. We're just trying to safeguard the younger population by offering an alternative.'

The council chose to move Halloween indoors.

A community event will be held for all the children with face painting, candy and a haunted house.

Arviat is located on the western shore of Hudson Bay in the Kivalliq Region of Nunavut, Canada and is only accessible by helicopter or snowmobile.
