K9 Officers are not a new trend for Police Departments, but having a pit bull as part of a K9 team? That's something new for the state of New York.

There's a new sheriff in town... Okay, Kiah is not a sheriff, but the dog is leading the way for Pit Bulls and trying to break common stereotypes for the breed. Kiah is the first Police Pit Bull in New York.

The pit was found at a non-profit animal rescue, the "Animal Farm Foundation" in Stanford, New York - Just over an hour south of Albany.

Kiah graduated from a K9 training school back in November 2015 and will be used for missing person searches, with the Poughkeepsie Police Department. This is the first time the Poughkeepsie Police Department has added a pit bull to their K9 team, but it may start becoming a trend - Not only in Poughkeepsie or New York, but all over the country.

You can see Kiah in the video (at the top of this page).
