If you've been dragging your feet on applying for a hand gun license in NY State, now might be the time to get the ball rolling. Two weeks ago a bill was proposed that would allow the state complete access to ALL of your social media accounts in order to even consider you for a license. And by access, we don't mean just anonymously scrolling through your feeds...

Under the bill, you would provide the state with the passwords to all of your accounts (yes, you read that right) and then they'd go in and check your last three years of postings to see if you have any racist, terroristic or violent tendencies. Not only that, but you'd also have to give them access to the last year of your internet search history as well so they can again verify that you're not searching for anything that law-abiding citizens shouldn't be interested in.

On one side of the coin, if you have something that bad to hide this would definitely be a deterrent to applying for a license, but on the flip-side even if your life is squeaky clean this just feels like the equivalent of inviting a stranger into your home and giving them a tour of your underwear drawer. So far, it appears that a single lawmaker is behind this bill and even if you have no interest in a handgun license, let's hope that it stays that way...
