Phoenix High School Trying To Cope After Ridge Barden Dies During Game [VIDEO]

Grief counselors are are on hand today following the death of a Phoenix high school football player. 16 year old Ridge Barden went down after being hit hard in the third quarter Friday night, during a game with Homer high school. He managed to sit up, but complained of a head ache. Barden then fell over when he tried to get up. He was taken to the hospital where he died from blunt force trauma and bleeding to the brain.
Bardin’s mother spoke with WSYR about her son and feels no one should feel guilty about what happened, because ‘it was just an accident.’ And she doesn’t want her don’s death to leave a black cloud over the sport. There have been new concussion regulations put in place and equipment upgrades made, to avoid such devastion. But football is after all, a contact sport. Which leaves the question, is the sport too physical for high school?
