A tragic car-pedestrian accident in Clinton yesterday has left one person dead and another in critical condition. According to WIBX, the accident occurred at the intersection of Route 12-B and Limberlost Road in Kirkland when two people who were walking along the shoulder of the road were hit by a car. The accident brings the subject of pedestrian safety to the forefront. Here are some important safety tips.
1– Use sidewalks where provided. Cross or enter streets where it is legal to do so.
2–Where no sidewalks are provided, it is safer to walk FACING road traffic.
3–Make it easy for drivers to see you – dress in light colors and wear retro-reflective material.
4–Be wary. Most drivers are nice people, but don’t count on them paying attention. Watch out – make eye contact to be sure they see you!
Remember to always use those sidewalks where provided. It is not only the smart things to do but in some localities it is illegal to walk in the street where sidewalks are provided.
