It's the big week in Nashville. CMA Fest. You can see, hear and meet almost any country artist you want. Some you may have to wait longer for. But most country artists from Reba McEntire, Shania Twain and Zac Brown to the upcomers can be found in Nashville this week.
Joanie Koons of Oriskany and three friends, Kate Nicoletta of New Hartford, Kandi Haas Floyd (Joanie's daughter) and Missy Jackson of Clark Mills are spending the week at CMA Fest. Before leaving Joanie promised to keep us posted on what was going on in Nashville. And by the looks of the pictures, the girls have been busy.
Reba McEntire is hitting the road this fall. After touring with George Strait and LeeAnn Womack, she's ready to head out on her own tour. She's taking The Band Perry, Steel Magnolia and newcomers Eden's Edge out with her on 31 dates in the US and Canada. No specifics on cities or ticket information is available yet, but we'll let you know when they are, especially if she stops in Central New York.
The country artists you hear on Big Frog 104 have big hearts. Day after day we learn of yet another country star performing at benefit concerts to help victims of recent natural disasters.
Reba and Blake Shelton are giving back to their home state. Their tornado relief concerts raised 500 thousand dollars for Oklahoma. They played two sold-out shows last week, singing duets and providing harmony on each other's hits. Their only solo numbers came during the encore, with Shelton going it alone for "Ol' Red" and Reba taking the spotlight for "Fancy." Kelly Clarkson even stopped by for a special appearance on Thursday.
Finally. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert have released a picture of their big day. Miranda wore her mothers wedding dress while Blake sported jeans. At least he put on a tie. The picture is on the cover of US Weekly and more pictures can been seen inside the magazine.
Miranda says she chose to wear her mom's wedding dress rather than have a new one made, because she believe the dress is "a good luck charm," since her parents are still together after 33 years of marriage. And Shelton admits he teared up when he saw Miranda walk down the aisle.
Who is Jared Blake? If you watch the new NBC show "The Voice," you may have seen Jared. He's on Blake Shelton's team after getting a second shot.
During his first audition, none of the 4 judges choose him. But he received a second shot during the callbacks and Blake grabbed him after he sang the Dixie Chick's "Not Ready to Make Nice."
But before "The Voice," Jared was just a struggling musician. And although he may not look like it, he's a country boy. He's worked with Gretchen Wilson, Dierks Bentley and The Muzik Mafia.
ConFROGulations to the happy couple. Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are man and wife. Theywere married in front of over 500 people in Texas. Martina McBride, Reba, Dierks Bentley and Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelly were among those in attendance. Neal McCoy provided the entertainment at the reception.
Reba McEntire was voted the greatest woman in country music over the last 20 years in a poll by CMT. No doubt Reba is one of the few artists to have a career last that long, man or woman. But many other female singers chose to focus on family rather than career (Faith Hill), got tired of the limelight (Shania Twain) or shot themselves in the foot (Dixie Chicks.) Check out the complete list and tell us your favorite female country singer.
We're learning a little more each day about who's going to perform at the upcoming CMA Festival, and Taylor Swift is just one of many country superstars scheduled to take to the stage.
This has been a devastating week across the country - tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, flooding, and we have even had our share of it here in central New York. Now, Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton are going home to help.
How would you like to see Tim Mcgraw, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Reba or Sugarland? You can not only buy tickets to a show but get backstage passes too.
Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland has started an online auction to help the non-profit organization, Attic Community Playground, that supports performing arts education. The cause is close to Nettles' heart. She says the art programs available to her as a child, helped her music career and she's sad schools continue to cut back on music, art and drama programs.
