Oneida Seeking Storm Drain Thieves

Last week we reported on the theft of manhole covers in the city of Utica. Now, according to WIBX, officials in Oneida are seeking those responsible for stealing several storm drains. As with the case of the missing manhole covers the reason behind the thefts appears to be money.
Thieves can turn in the drains as scrap metal and if the buyer doesn’t notice–or turns a blind eye to–any identifying markers they can make a few extra dollars. The cost to replace a drain is around $250 but the human cost of an unsuspecting cyclist or motorist hitting a coverless manhole or drain can be even higher.
