The actress Bette Davis once said, "Getting old isn't for sissies". More and more people are searching for the fountain of youth these days and there are certain foods and drinks that will put up roadblocks on that search. What are they and why do they speed up the aging process?

Women's Day came up with 10 foods and drinks that age us prematurely. Here is a sampling.

--Salt. Getting more than 1,500 mg of sodium can lead to high blood pressure, which “can weaken the skin by affecting collagen. Salt also can cause puffiness by your eyes.
--Coffee. Coffee not only stains your teeth but also dehydrates your body, causing skin to dry out and look less youthfully plump.
--Alcohol. Booze pulls water out of your cells. “This causes you to look puffy around the eyes. Counteract alcohol’s dehydrating effects by drinking one extra glass of water.
--Red Meat. The high level of carnitine, a compound abundant in animal protein, can harden blood vessel walls, causing skin to crease prematurely.
--Soda. Soda is highly acidic and wears away tooth enamel, making teeth more susceptible to decay. Soda’s high sodium levels age skin.
