Leading the state in something will get any city/town recognition. But this may be an honor you wouldn't want for your hometown. USA Today has determined the drunkest city in each state. The envelope please. New York's Drunkest city is.....

Using a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the USA Today found the cities with heaviest number of binge and heavy drinkers.

binge drinking — defined as four or more drinks in a single occasion for women and five or more for men — and heavy drinking, which is defined as at least eight drinks per week for women and 15 for men.

With that criteria, the Watertown-Fort Drum metro was given the dubious honor of New York's drunkest city. Their findings say nearly 23% of the residents either binge drink or are heavy drinkers. That's in the top 10% of the country and compares with the New York's rate of more than 18%. That puts the state in the top 20%.

I lived in Watertown at one time, in fact that's where Polly and I met, maybe that explains it. Get more details on the story and the drunkest city in every state at USA Today.com.
