With all the talk of Dick's Sporting Goods banning certain guns, and Walmart following that too, what exactly do gun deaths look like in New York?

According to a new study published by the Giffords Law Center, New York has the nation's third-lowest rate of gun deaths among the 50 states. The study showed New York's 900 reported deaths by firearm in 2016 ranked as the lowest per capita of any state except Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Syracuse.com connects the low death rates to New York's SAFE Act passed in 2013. The group's studies have consistently shown the correlation between gun laws and lower death rates by firearm.
