It's the ongoing fight at every Dairy Farm, Mastitis. Marylynn Collins with Cornell Cooperative Extension says the FDA has approved a new product that may reduce the risk.

Imrestor is a product developed by Elanco and is designed to alleviate several probelms associated with calving.  It works by proactively helping to restore the function of the cow’s immune system.  Imrestor will be available thru your veterinarian and will be administered thru two injections, one seven days prior to the anticipated delivery date, and the second within 24 hours after calving.

Efficacy studies conducted for the FDA showed a 28% reduction in clinical mastitis cases. Imrestor helps restore the function and increase the number of neutrophils at the time of calving. The specific release date of the product is still unknown. Always consult your veterinarian when discussing mastitis treatment and prevention options.  You can read more about Imrestor at Elanco's website.
