“USA TODAY” New Look, Looks Ho-Hum To Me
Every week, I buy the “USA TODAY” weekend edition for national news, sports, show biz items, financial stories, national weather map and more. I always look for that familiar USA TODAY masthead and logo that I’ve seen for the past 25 years, until last weekend when they changed it! I barely found it in the store.
The new logo is a blue circle with USA TODAY set in the blandest of the bland type. Whoever got paid to come up with this new design must have put on a heck of a dog and pony show for the publisher to approve it. What used to be a recognizable image is now just ordinary and ho-hum, in my opinion.
And the way the news stories are displayed looks more like a computer screen than a newspaper. I love reading USA TODAY, always have. It starts my weekend. But with the new logo and new look, I think they’ve created the “New Coke” of newspapers, and you may remember how well that went.
It’s not just me who votes thumbs down on the new look, here’s Stephen Colbert from TV’s “Colbert Report” with his take on the change.
