According to ABC News, Disney will acquire Lucas Films for just bit more than 4 billion dollars.    Lucas gets half in cash and half in Disney stock.  Lucas added that one of his greatest pleasures over the last 35 years was passing Star Wars from one generation to the next.

I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I'm confident that with Lucasfilm...having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come.

The film is scheduled for 2015, no word on whether Lucas will have a hand in making it.
