“National Bubba Day”-Five Famous Bubba’s
Today, June 2, is National Bubba Day, a day to salute and recognize men who–through no fault of their own in most cases–have come to be known as “Bubba”. How and why a man earns the nickname “Bubba” are as varied as the men themselves. I have done some research and come up with perhaps the 5 most famous “Bubba's”.
Bubba Watson
Bubba's Play Golf?
For years Bubba Watson was known as the guy who could hit a golf ball farther than anyone else on earth. However after his victory at this years Masters Tournament he is now considered a more complete golfer. There probably aren't too many Bubba's at your local country club but that could soon change.
Bubba Smith
NFL Great and Actor
The late Bubba Smith--he passed away last year--was a 9-year defensive standout with several NFL teams. After his playing days he became a successful actor, most notably for his recurring role as Moses Hightower in the "Police Academy" movies. He earned bonus Bubba points by appearing in a series of TV ads for Miller Lite.
Bubba Gump Shrimp Company
Fantasy Becomes Reality
The origin of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company came via the movie "Forrest Gump". Forrest and his buddy Benjamin Buford "Bubba" Blue dreamed up the idea of forming such a company while serving in Vietnam. After Bubba was killed in action Forrest formed the business himself which went on to become a huge success. The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company later became a reality when the film company Viacom created a business based on the popularity of "Forrest Gump".
Bill "Bubba" Clinton
A Bubba in the White House
His presidential moniker was William Jefferson Clinton but over the course of his 8 years in office he became known to many as Bill "Bubba" Clinton. According to Wikipedia "His folksy manner led him to be nicknamed "Bubba", especially in the Southern U.S." Only in America can a man with the nickname Bubba become President of the United States.
The Bubba Who Shot the Jukebox
Mark Chestnut had a top 5 hit in 1992 with "Bubba Shot the Jukebox", the story of a Bubba who, having imbibed more than his share of spirits, took out his anger over a sad song at the jukebox
