NASCAR driver JASON LEFFLER was killed in a crash during a Sprint Car race at Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey. The driver who had the nickname "LefTurn" was 37 years old, and leaves behind a 5-year-old son.

Leffler had been racing dirt car events most of this year, including last night's race, which boasted a $7,000 prize for the winner.

Leffler had to be pulled from the vehicle.  He was taken to a local trauma center and was pronounced dead.

NASCAR released a statement:

'NASCAR extends its thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to the family of Jason Leffler who passed away earlier this evening. For more than a decade, Jason was a fierce competitor in our sport and he will be missed.'

NASCAR drivers and celebrities are expressing their sympathies on Twitter.
