As the majority of the deer season concluded this past weekend, the Department of Environmental Conservation says 2016 surpassed last year in number of deer harvested.  If you didn't get yours, there's still some areas where the season is open.

The DEC says 5% more deer were taken in the Southern Zone this year.  State wide the harvest was about 9% higher.  Those numbers were compiled prior to this past weekends final days of gun season, so they will likely increase.

Here's where you can still bag one:

      • In the Southern Zone "late bow and muzzle-loader" season continues through December 20
      • In Westchester County bow season continues until December 31
      • In Suffolk County bow season continues until January 31, with a special firearms season January 1 - 31
      • In the special Deer Management Focus Area near Ithaca the season resumes from January 14-31 for antler-less deer

Get specific regulations and times for each area at the DEC's website. And if you get one, share a photo in our Trophy Room and you could win a $100 gift card to Mayhood's Sporting Goods in Norwich.
