When you think of the Great New York State Fair fishing may not come to mind. It does for the Governor, he's using the scene to announce more free fishing days in New York.

New York Four opportunities to fish without a license have been designated:

  • September 23, 2017 - National Hunting and Fishing Day
    November 11, 2017 - Veterans Day
February 17-18, 2018 - weekend preceding Presidents Day
June 23-24, 2018 - last full weekend in June

During these days NY residents and out of state visitors can fish for free. All other fishing regulations are still in force when it comes to size limits and creel limits. More information on Free Fishing Weekends and the I FISH NY program are at the DEC's website.

The Department of Environmental Conservation will conduct a free fishing clinic at the fair, August 27 from 10 to 4. Anyone with a valid New York hunting or fishing license gets into the fair free. In addition to winning fishing equipment, there will be demonstrations and tips on the sport and a bass tournament.
