Minor Mudslide Closes Route 51 Near Ilion Gorge on March 31, 2014

A mudslide being described as "relatively minor" by officials is forcing the closure of Route 51 in Ilion.

James Piccola with the New York State Department of Transportation says an emergency contractor is on the scene.

He says that the Ilion Gorge does have "some significant vertical embankments and our geotechnical staff will be reviewing the area for other potential issues."

At this time they expect the road to be open on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.
