We've teamed up with Whites Farm Supply and James Wesley to 'Thank a Farmer' at FrogFest.  We've been asking you to nominate farmers who deserve recognition and 2 will be James Wesley's special guests at FrogFest June 15th. Today we recognize the Mierek Farm in Westernville, nominated by Susan Zylinsky.

Family, friends and neighbors would like to nominate George T Mierek, SR 73 & Robert Mierek. Father and son who own and operate a dairy farm in Westernville, NY. Both very deserving and dedicated to farming. My mom and Dad (George and Barbara) own and operate the farm which is of 200 head (not considered big now a days). Married for 51 years and still working with plans of my brother taking over the farm (Robert). My mom also plays a very active role in the farm and without her support it would difficult for both of them.

My dad has been a farmer all his life. He had to quit school at the age of 18 to take care of his family farm. My dad and mom raised 7 children in which all participated in the farm. My parents told all of us if you don't go to college and get a job then you are going to work on the farm. All of us except my brother Robert stayed. (Don't get me wrong some of us still visit the farm quite often).

Both are well liked by neighbors, family, and friends. They are very kind, generous, and always helping others. They're looked upon by all. If you call them for anything they will be right over to pull you out of a ditch, plow your fields (even when they have their own to do), help other farmers with a sick cow, plow your drive way, and etc. They work countless hours. From sun up until sun down and then some. Jr. Sykes, my dad's former hired hand quotes "I've never met better people in my life. They are not just my friends they are my family".

Approx. 3 months ago my brother and mom realized how difficult it was going to be without my dad operating the farm. My dad was diagnosed with Listeria Meningitis, a brain infection in which hospitalized him for 2 1/2 months. My dad was in the hospital during the super bowl and Paul Harvey's "God made a Farmer" came on. It was the moment we all needed. I couldn't even believe it, what a perfect commercial. Words can't even explain how we all felt. The entire family and friends were sending texts to each other. I took a picture of my dad and sent it out and titled "God made a Farmer". I just showed my dad this commercial today and he was silent.

At this time he still had a long recovery. Currently he is home, in rehab and left with vision and walking problems however you can't hold him back. He drives my mom crazy, so strong willed. My mom's trying to keep him safe and then one day he takes his walker to the tractor, manages to get on and plowed once around the field. Like the group Alabama sings "Can't keep a good man down".

Even if they do not win this contest it is an honor to nominate them and show them how much they are loved and appreciated. There are a lot of farmers to be thankful for and we truly thank them. GOD BLESS ALL THE FARMERS!!

Thank you Susan for your nomination and thank you Mierek Family for what you do everyday. We’ll put you in the random drawing to be James Wesley’s special guests at FrogFest June 15th, so he can ‘Thank a Farmer.’
