Middleville volunteer firefighter Michele Morgan has lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. She passed away Thursday, April 30th.

Morgan's cousin, Wayne M Stahl shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook. "After a too short battle with Pancreatic Cancer, my cousin Michele fought her last battle on Thursday night with her husband and son nearby. She like most that pass from cancer did so long before her time and even longer before anyone is ready. She will be missed by many as her life touched so many people in so many ways. I for one was always richer for having her as family and the hole she leaves behind is huge within us all. Now be at peace dear cousin and please if you're going to haunt me, make it funny."

Michele was laid to rest Monday, May 4th with a procession that stretched for miles. "A part of us was put to rest today. You had one amazing procession today. Not that we ever would expect anything less. You may be gone but never forgotten. Until we meet again."

Morgan didn't fight the her disease alone. She had an entire community supporting her. A benefit was held in March at West Canada Valley school, where parking was at a minimum. Yet, having to park so far away, showed the distance a community will go, to help one of their own. Former Middleville Mayor Liz Schrader, who organized the benefit says, “we wanted to show how we can stand together to help her fight this disease.”

Stand together they did. Hundreds of items were donated for an auction and fire departments passed the boot to support Morgan, who’s been a member of the Middleville Volunteer Fire Department for over 21 years. Her husband Donnie, Fire Department President, has served just as long, right by her side.

The event raised thousand for Morgan and her family and a Go Fund Me account has been set up as well. Donate at GoFundMe.com.
