Matt’s Picks For the “Oscars”

I am an admitted movie junkie. That fact makes picking this years Academy Award–”Oscar”–winners extremely difficult as there are so many great movies and preformances to choose from. Here are my picks in the 5 major categories.
Best Picture

Argo–The smart money is on “Lincoln” but this movie had me on the edge of my seat even though I knew the ending. Based on a true story, the reality of it all was the amazing.
Best Actor

Daniel Day-Lewis for “Lincoln”–I walked out of the theater convinced I had just seen Abraham Lincoln in a movie. Daniel Day-Lewis BECAME Lincoln in this film. An awesome performance.
Best Actress

Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook–I first saw her in a terrific movie called “Winter’s Bone” before she went on to stardom in “Hunger Games”. In this movie she shows why, at 22, she is one of the best actresses of any age in Hollywood.
Best Supporting Actor

Phillip Seymore Hoffman for The Master–It wasn’t one of the blockbuster movies of the year but featured two incredible performances, one by Joaquin Phoenix and the other by Phillip Seymore Hoffman. Hoffman is always great, no matter the role, so this one should be a shoo-in.
Best Supporting Actress

Helen Hunt for The Sessions–One of my favorite movies of 2012 featured a different Helen Hunt than we’re used to seeing (wink, wink). An overlooked actress giving a great performance.
I’m not very good at predicting these kind of things so, hopefully, my selections won’t be the kiss of death for these nominees!
