Local Filmmaker Promoting Suicide Prevention In Latest Movie

Movies and film have the power to bring out emotions in us, and many know the right movie can change lives. That's what Charles 'Chic' Scaparo hopes to accomplish with his latest short film Beatrice.

Beatrice will focus on a young widower struggling with life and loss, who is contemplating taking his own life. He is brought back out of those thoughts through the help of a young woman named Beatrice Woods.

Scaparo's goal is to bring importance to the topic publicly, and to let anyone struggling with the idea of suicide know there is help:

"While the topic of suicide is very sensitive, it is also very important. I believe that this film will not only show viewers why focusing upon this topic is important as a public matter, I also want to give others who may be struggling through a very difficult time a new sense of hope."

While the script and crew is set, Scaparo's production needs your help getting off the ground.

A crowdfunding campaign has been set up for the film at Indiegogo.com where 10% of your donations to the making of the film will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

"Many of us have either experienced suicide on a personal level, or know someone who has. Beatrice was created to not only to create a beautiful film that will tackle this very sensitive topic, but to also begin the conversation amongst ourselves. Many people who are suffering will do little to let us know verbally that they are in trouble. I believe that if we communicate with the people in our lives and just look a little deeper into each others worlds, we might discover someone in need -- and we can be the hope they are looking for."

Right now the film is at 31% of its $3,000 goal, and you can help them get all the way there.

Donating to this important cause will also have a few perks for you as well.

Chic Scaparo is originally from Ilion, NY and has a Bachelor's Degree in Film Studies from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Beatrice will be filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina as soon as enough funds are raised for production.
