We’ve teamed up with Whites Farm Supply and James Wesley to ‘Thank a Farmer‘ at FrogFest.  We’ve been asking you to nominate farmers who deserve recognition and 2 will be James Wesley’s special guests at FrogFest June 15th. Today we recognize Link Maple Farm in Taberg.

I would like to thank my father, Jon Link. I am 17 years old and recently became the New York State Draft Horse Youth Representative. Our farm is Link Maple Farm and we make about 1000 gallons of syrup a year.

My father made syrup as a child and when I was about 4 years old he started making syrup again to teach me and slowly it has grown into a full time business which my mother, father and I run. My father, although hard on me during maple and haying season, does take the time to tell me we couldn't do it without me. My father has grown a little red in the face at times when I get trucks or tractors stuck or break something, but as all farmers are he shows me how to fix my mistakes.

We also make hay and have a team of draft horses. We have won Best Of Show at the New York State Fair and six ribbons in the past two years.

Making syrup, corn, and hay has taught me that farming is not an easy job. The physical effects and the economical effects are tough on the farmers and people do not realize the effort farmers go through every day to put the food on their table. My father has taught me this, and farming has instilled many values in me that others have not had the chance to learn, it makes me appreciate everything more. My father has made me want to continue the family business after college. All farmers whether crop, dairy, beef, maple, honey, or vegetable should be respected by society since we feed the population.

Thank you to the Link Maple Farm and John Link for what you do everyday. We’ll put you in the random drawing to be James Wesley’s special guests at FrogFest June 15th, so he can ‘Thank a Farmer.’
