Step away from the washer. If you want your favorite jeans to last, Levi Strauss CEO Chip Bergh suggests avoiding the washing machine.

Bergh, who was wearing his favorite year-old pair of jeans at a conference, said 'they have yet to see a washing machine. I know that sounds totally disgusting. But believe me, it can be done.'

So how often should you wash your blue jeans? Bergh says 'not very often. If you talk to real denim aficionado's, they'll tell you don't wash your blue jeans.'

Instead use a sponge and a tooth brush to spot wash, then air dry. Your jeans will 'last longer than most people's waistlines,' jokes Bergh.

If they start to smell, throw them in the freezer.  It'll kill the bacteria and the smell according to one expert.

I'd actually heard this somewhere before and admit I rarely wash my jeans.  If they are caked in mud or I've spilled coffee all over them, then I'll throw them in the wash.  Otherwise, they don't see the washing machine for sometimes over a month.
