The snow advisory has been upgraded to a warning with up to 12 inches expected in most of Central New York according to the National Weather Service.

Lake Effect Snow Warning from 1 pm today to 4am Friday

* LOCATIONS...Portions of Central New York including Oneida, Onondaga and Madison counties.

* ACCUMULATIONS...6 to 12 inches

* TIMING...Snow showers and squalls developing by this afternoon. Bands of lake effect snow this evening through Thursday night.

* IMPACTS...Hazardous travel due to snow covered roads and blowing and drifting snow.

* WINDS...West 10 to 20 MPH with gusts up to 35 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES...Falling into the teens tonight and remaining there through Thursday before falling into the single digits.

Snow will likely be intense enough to drop 1 to several inches of snow per hour for several hours. Travel is STRONGLY discouraged.
