Jake Owen woke New Yorkers up early Monday morning (Aug. 1) with a spirited performance of "American Country Love Song" on Good Morning America in Times Square.

Owen and his band — which included a keytar player — brought two palm trees along with them as a backdrop for the laid-back love song. The Florida native was all smiles in a black T-shirt and jeans singing the debut single off his new album, American Love.

"American Country Love Song" is getting a bit of a remake, as Ronnie Dunn will assist on a new version of the song that is going to country radio.

“When I listen to this track, I can’t help but grin from ear to ear,” Owen shares with Sounds Like Nashville. “I was lucky enough to go on tour with Brooks & Dunn early in my career. I would sit out on the lawn of the amphitheaters and listen to their sound check every day. To have Ronnie’s voice on a song with me is a dream come true. I have always been such a fan and when I first heard ‘American Country Love Song,’ it reminded me of the Brooks & Dunn song ‘Only in America.’”

As Owen explains, he sent the song to Dunn and asked if he would sing on it.

“When I received an email back from him saying that he really liked the song and would send the track back to me with his vocal, I was like a kid on Christmas morning waiting with anticipation,” he says. “And man, did he nail it! I still can’t believe it. I can’t wait to hear what people think about it.”

Owen's American Love album finds him coming out of the darkness left by his divorce in 2015. He talks about this at length in our latest cover story.
