It’s Winter Getaway Planning Time

As we all know winters in Central New York can be long and hard. If you are a winter sports enthusiast it’s great but if you long for the warm days of spring and summer it can be downright depressing. That’s why so many of us plan a mid-winter getaway to someplace warm. Here are some popular spots courtesy USNews.com IHOP will celebrate National Pancake Day with a free stack of buttermilk pancakes on February 5.
Kauai, Hawaii–Yes, winter ushers in tourists and inflated room rates, but it’s oh-so worth it. Relax on the golden sands of Po’ipu Beach, or pack a picnic and enjoy the scenery along Lumahai.
Playa Del Carmen, Mexico–In Playa del Carmen, the beach atmosphere is laid-back, the mixed drinks are strong, and the golf courses are plentiful. But ensure the price is right before you book
St. Martin-St. Maarten–You’ll get two cultures for the expense of one island vacation. Visit French St. Martin for some duty-free shopping and fine dining. Afterwards, hop over to Dutch St. Maarten for the lively clubs and casinos.
Puerto Rico–Puerto Rico’s attractions range from adventurous (exploring the underground caves of Rio Camuy Cave Park) to historic (traversing the 500-year-old El Morro walls) to luxurious (relaxing on a Vieques beach). Plus, you can enjoy the perks of the Caribbean without leaving the country.
Key West, Florida–Key West makes an ideal winter getaway for those looking for warm weather, frozen daiquiris, and mellow afternoons followed by rowdy evenings.
My wife and I bought a house in Cape Coral, Florida and I can’t tell you how many times I have caught her packing a suitcase only to have to say, “Sorry dear, not today. You have to go to work”.
