It's time for pruning and there's plenty of questions, especially when it comes to Raspberries. The Master Gardeners at Cornell Cooperative Extension say if done properly, your plant can produce fruit twice a year.

Summer red raspberries should be pruned twice a year, first in the spring and immediately after harvest. Spring pruning happens during late March or early April. Remove all weak canes and cut back tall canes (over 5 feet) to 4.5 to 5 feet. The second pruning consists of removal of canes that produced fruits, right after harvest.

Ever bearing red raspberries such as “Hertiage” raspberry can be pruned to produce fruit once or twice a year. If you follow the pruning methods used for summer red raspberries. The “Heritage” raspberry will produce fruit once in spring and once in fall.
