It’s The Passing Of The Shillelagh Tonight

One of the annual pre-St. Patrick’s Day events in Utica is the “Passing of the Shillelagh” ceremony, and it’s tonight at Hotel Utica. A shillelagh is an Irish walking stick, and tonight last year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal will hand over the shillelagh to this year’s Grand Marshal.
Tonight’s event at Hotel Utica is from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., and there is a $10 donation to support the parade. Complimentary food and beverages will be available, and of course you must be 21 years of age to imbibe in a brew. The Honorable Judge Michael Dwyer, last year’s Grand Marshal is scheduled to pass the shillelagh to Patrick Costello, the 2012 Grand Marshal.
The photo seen here is of St. Patrick in last year’s Utica parade, and is not a Grand Marshal.
