I don't think it's a coincidence that May is National Salsa Month; the same month that we celebrated Cinco de Mayo. That's OK by me. Salsa is one of my favorite foods, and I was surprised to learn that it's is used more as a topping than ketchup (I'd still rather have ketchup on french fries).

Salsa was first introduced as a picante sauce in 1947. I can't remember a Super Bowl gathering at the "Splashin'"McShea house that didn't have salsa with tortilla chips on the coffee table for the big game. Many use salsa as a dip, a marinade and in various recipes.

We all have our favorites. Some like it hot, and some like it hotter. We prefer a medium-hot version, and yes, we have our favorite. While I'm not going to mention the brand name, I will say that we like the salsa that has Paul Newman's picture on the label. Enjoy!
