On this day in 1978, the number one country song was "Blue Skies", recorded by Willie Nelson on his "Stardust" album, and we're featuring it on today's "Country Classic Double" at 11:30 a.m. "Blue Skies" is an American classic written by Irving Berlin (who also wrote "White Christmas") and has been recorded by just about everyone. "Stardust"was a breakthrough album, featuring a number of non-country American standards. A little sidebar - every year when my wife and I go on vacation to Cape Cod, that CD always goes on the trip.

Here's a video of Willie performing "Blues Skies" live in Wembley, England in 2007.
