Have You Ever Heard Of Trichotillomania
Have you ever heard of Trichotillomania? There are more than 200,000 cases per year of it here in the United States. Currently, I suffer from it.
Trichotillomania is also known as hair pulling disorder. It's a impulse control disorder where the person suffering from it has strong urges just to pull out hair. The head and around the eyes are the most common places this occurs.
For me, it's my facial hair. This can occur under stress, anxiety, or honestly out of boredom. I sit at my desk at work, and I can start pulling out hair for no reason at all. I get extremely embarrassed in public, and I will often try to put my hand on my face to hide it. I have to shave almost instantly after a day of having trouble with it. EVEN after I shave, my face can be completely smooth, I still search for hair to pull. It's a horrible feeling at times.
There are plenty of famous who suffer from it. This list includes: Megan Fox, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, and Olivia Munn. Munn for example, pulls out her eyelashes all the time and constantly has to wear fake ones. Luckily for me, I can just shave and not have to worry all that much.
There are plenty of treatment options available. There is Psychotherapy, medication, and different devices to use. For me, one person that always helps, is my wife. She is very supportive and will mention when I'm doing it. Sometimes, it's out of habit. Shes very supportive and helpful.
