Income Tax Deadline, Tuesday, April 17th

Those of use who have waited to file our 2011 income tax returns have until Tuesday, April 17th to get it done. In past years, some local post offices would stay open late for that last minute mailing, so it’s important that you check your local post office to see if they have extended tax day hours.
The Utica Post Office Main Branch at 100 Pitcher Street will be open until 6:00 p.m., according to their phone message, and mail at that location must be received by 6:00 p.m. for an April 17th postmark. For more information on specific post offices and their hours on tax day, call toll-free 1-800-275-8777. Remember, returns for both federal and state must be postmarked April 17th.
For more details, visit the IRS website and New York State Department of Taxation. And, if you’re really up against the wall, you may be able to file for an extension. Check with the IRS and NYS Income Tax for more information.
Good luck!
