A 12-year-old is alive thanks to the cooperation and bravery of 13 strangers.  Josh McQuiod was swimming in the ocean off the coast of New Zealand when several big waves swept him out to sea.

People on the beach formed a human chain to bring Josh back to shore after waves dragged him more than 500 feet away.  He wasn't responding when they reached him but he was given first aid and is going to be fine.

Josh said it was, 'like being in a washing machine' and he's thankful to everyone who helped drag him from the sea, saving his life.

A round of applause to everyone who rushed to help without thinking twice.  We need more people in the world like this!
