How We Name Our Pets

My wife and I went to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society Friday on a mission. After our cat, Alice, passed away in January we didn’t think we would want another cat but time heals all–or at least most–wounds and decided to give a shelter cat a new lease on the good life. It was a hard to choose but, in the end, a beautiful black and white 2 year old girl made it clear she wanted to come home with us. Now the question was “what do we name her?”
After some back and forth discussion and about a dozen suggestions we decided on the name Fenway. Now if you’re a Yankee fan, sorry but my wife is a lifelong Red Sox fan and, in the end, we decided to honor the iconic Boston ballpark Fenway Park and name her after it. I suppose there are all kinds of ways we pick names for our pets. My late cat Alice was named after Alice Kramden, a character on the old TV show “The Honeymooners”. It’s something to give thought to.
