How We Measure Success
There was a popular bumper sticker back on the 1980′s that read “He who dies with the most toys wins”. I would guess the translation would be something along the lines of whoever has the most material wealth has led the best or, at least, the most productive life. Men’s Health magazine did a survey to determine how people define success and the results are–if not surprising–most interesting.
How do you measure success in life?
* Good friendships — 66 percent
* Money — 12 percent
* Responsibility/power — 11 percent
* Fame — 6 percent
* A long life — 4 percent
* Number of offspring — 1 percent
Personally, when I hear people cry that higher taxes punish those who are successful I always look at a family where mom and dad work two jobs to put their kids through college and say, “THAT is success, my friend, that is success”.
