The past few months have been some of my first experiences with a garden. My wife has taken care of everything, but I've been good watching in the background. One question I asked her this morning, when do we harvest our basil? Here's how to know when it's time to harvest, and how to keep your plant alive.

We planted our basil in doors a while back and the plant is growing beautifully. If you're looking to grow basil outside, experts suggest set out basil plants at least 2 weeks after the last frost in spring. They also say that summer planting is okay too. Basil needs 6 to 8 hours of sun a day and it also benefits from some afternoon shade.
