When you live in one place for a long time you can become jaded on what your hometown has to offer. It's not until an out of towner sees your city through new eyes that you realize the beauty of the area.

Gerardo Castanon is from Virginia and chose to visit Rome. His wife works for a company that often sends employees to the area and "I decided to tag along," he says.

Gerardo took time to tour the area, stopping by Fort Stanwix and Griffiss. "This city reminds me of so many beautiful European cities. The combination of beautiful architecture and nature make it so welcoming to visitors."

It wasn't just the architecture that Gerardo fell in the love with while he was in town. He says the hospitality added to his stay too. "It is so clean and the people are very friendly."

Since Gerardo didn't have time to experience everything Rome has to offer, he plans to return. "I can wait to come back and go fishing," he says.

The holidays are also a good time to return to Rome just to see the Christmas House that lights up the neighborhood every year.

Thanks Gerardo for reminding us the beauty in our own backyard. It's nice to see our hometown through the eyes of an out of towner.
