Honors To The Hagg
Merle Haggard first hit the country music scene in 1963 with a song called “Sing A Sad Song.” It only went to 19 on the music charts. He didn’t score a number hit until 1966 with “The Fugitive.” And in 2010, at the age of 73, he’s still playing music on the road. After all that time, he’s finally being recognized.
He’ll join Oprah and Paul McCartney for the annual Kennedy Center honors. The award recognizes lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts. The two day event includes a State Department dinner on Saturday hosted by Hillary Clinton. The honorees will meet with President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House before the star studded gala performance at the Kennedy Center Opera House. Highlights will be on a CBS special December 28th at 9pm.
