You  may remember the Kris Kristofferson song "Help Me Make It Through The Night". You've heard me play the Sammi Smith version on our Big Frog 104 "Country Classic Double". Now, I say "Help me make it through the lights...red lights on Genesee Street".

Just this morning, I drove seven blocks from New Hartford to South Utica on Genesee Street and hit five red lights.  Five red lights! Talk about stop and go, it was mostly stop and hardly any go. No wonder I get about 10 miles to the gallon, and I guess I have to budget an extra 10 minutes for any travel time using Genesee Street.

Earlier this year, I recall that the city of Utica changed a few lights on Sunset Avenue and elsewhere to blinkers, or just put up stop signs to alleviate the stop and go driving syndrome. And I recall reading that the traffic lights on Genesee Street were being considered for new syncronization.

Years ago, a friend of mine told me if you get a green light as your first light on Genny, you're golden; you'll hit all green lights the rest of the way. Unfortunately, my first light was red, and so goes the rest.

Until the lights are synced differently, may your first traffic light be green!
