Help keep dogs warm this Winter by donating your old blankets. The Stevens-Swan Humane Society is in desperate need of large comforters and they can be new or used. The blankets are used on the dog beds to help keep them warm.

We took a walk through the shelter and noticed a number of large dogs. 76 to be exact. But only a few had large comforters to stay warm. The smaller fleece blankets and towels are used for the cats and there are a LOT of cats. Everywhere we turned, there was a cat. But the dogs need bigger blankets. "Since bedding is washed daily, the comforters hold up better than dog beds," says John from Stevens-Swan.

From the looks of some of the blankets, it looks like the dogs like to chew. "The dogs tear through them on a daily basis," says John.

So check your closets for any old comforters you're not using. The dogs and everyone at Stevens-Swan will put them to good use. You can drop blankets off anytime at 5664 Horatio Street in Utica. Stevens-Swan is open 11am-4:30pm Tuesday through Saturday but there is a bin outside if they are closed when you stop by.
