Heart Run & Walk And Radiothon Coming In March
January 27, 2012 1:10 PM Two signature events of the Utica-Rome area are “America’s Greatest Heart Run and Walk” and WIBX Slocum Dickson Heart Radiothon broadcast on our sister station WIBX. This year, the radiothon begins Friday, March 2 and continues on Saturday, March 3rd, the day of the run/walk. All of us at Big Frog 104 participate as “guest” hosts broadcasting a few hours on the air.

“41 years ago, former WIBX employee Ralph Allinger passed away from a heart attack. WIBX held a radiothon in his honor and a man from Barneveld decided to run from his home to the radio station to make his donation. It was from that act of generosity that the Heart Run and Walk was born. Such acts of generosity over the past 41 years has raised millions of dollars for research to find a cure for both heart disease and stroke.”

Saturday, March 3, 2012 5am – 1pm

On a personal note…years ago when I was a young student at Utica College, my Interviewing class professor assigned me to meet with Ralph Allinger, and interview him. Mr. Allinger was very busy (being a Friday) that morning, but spent well over an hour with me answering questions and giving his insights into radio broadcasting. I’ll never forget that meeting and what a professional he was.
