A live hand grenade found in Westmoreland had the Oneida County Sheriff's Office responding to a potentially explosive situation.

Deputies say employees at a consignment shop found what appeared to be a live hand grenade in a box being unpacked.

A member of the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit deemed the grenade to be live and removed the grenade for detonation.

Authorities say at no time was the public in any danger.

The grenade was believed to be of 1930s to 1940s World War II vintage and the safety pin and original fuse appeared to be intact.

Store employees say the grenade was located while doing an inventory of a large purchase of the contents from a building outside of the county.
