Grimaldi’s Closing After Nearly 70 Years

It is a fact that the Utica-Rome area has some of the best Italian food and finest Italian restaurants in the country. That list will be a little shorter soon with word that Grimaldi’s Restaurant on Bleecker Street in Utica will be closing its doors sometime in the next few weeks. According to YNN the Castronovo family issued a statement explaining the closure.
Friday, daughter Doreen Castronovo posted on Facebook, “After many long discussions, we have decided that this was the best avenue for us to take. Life is precious and much too short. The most important part of life is family. With that being said, I wish my parents, who have worked so very hard, a happy, and most of all healthy retirement.”

Personally I will not only miss the great food but the elegance of the establishment itself. There are far too few eateries that exhibit the class and sophistication that that Castronovo family provided at Grimaldi’s and it will be missed.
